Joseph of Egypt went through some bad experiences growing up and then found it hard to trust authority after that. It seems he was offered the job of governor of Egypt several times and he chose to run away and stay in a cave with bats and mongoose instead of accepting what was offered. It seems the hurt of being abandoned by his older brothers and also his father who he thought should have come to look for him caused a tremendous disappointment with authority so he decided to refuse offers and refuse what was offered instead of receiving since if it was coming from anything that felt like the 'authority' that let him down as a kid, then it seems as if he chose the independence but denied himself an opportunity to receive and be an authority. and help others. Eventually, he prayed that the Great power that gave him hope as a child that he would not die would also heal his lack of forgiveness for father and relatives and then he was able to receive the offer and opportunity.
